I am grateful to have had some of my songs professionally recorded by some of Nashville's finest musicians.
BLESSING IN DISGUISE is a poignant and beautiful song inspired by my son, Justin, who has autism. Some of the finest studio musicians in Nashville donated their talents to record the song with the hope that it might help to raise awareness of the growing autism epidemic, and perhaps someday be used in conjunction with autism awareness campaigns and fundraisers.

Story behind the song
My autistic son Justin inspired me to write this song a few years ago. When Bart Herbison, the Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association heard the song, he was so moved by it that he immediately made arrangements to have it recorded by a group of the finest studio musicians in Nashville. The poignant lyrics of Blessing in Disguise may serve to educate the public regarding some of the common traits of individuals with autism, and at the same time offer comfort to parents of autistic children, as it speaks of a silver lining in an otherwise difficult-to-face reality. Bart and I both strongly believe that if a well known recording artist such as Stephen Stills or Vince Gill were to record the song, it could be used to launch a huge autism awareness campaign and associated fundraisers. A nationally broadcast music-based fundraiser could easily be the single largest fundraising event ever accomplished for autism charities.
Lyrics
BLESSING IN DISGUISE by Tom Reisner I know someone who didnt cry When he heard the news about Princess Di He doesnt care about 9/11 The Holocaust or John Lennon Maybe its a blessing in disguise To see the world through his autistic eyes He never feels like hes neglected Hes unaware when hes rejected He can be content for hours Staring at a bed of flowers Maybe its a blessing in disguise To see the world through his autistic eyes There are so many special kids with hearts and minds so pure Could it be that were the ones who really need the cure? He loves to watch the children play But doesnt have too much to say He rocks himself at night in bed To the music in his head Maybe its a blessing in disguise To see the world through his autistic eyes One day with him on my knee I shed a tear that he could see Then he said, I love you Dad Theres no reason to be sad. Maybe its a blessing in disguise To see the world through his autistic eyes
